CARYN MEYER – Practice Owner

I completed my Physiotherapy Degree the end of 2013 at The University of the Western Cape. In 2014, I did my community service in Jan Kempdorp, a small town just outside Kimberley, in the Northern Cape. I practiced as the only physiotherapist in the town where resources were very limited.

It was a year of success, new experiences, meeting new people of different cultures and it was very rewarding to be able to turn my challenges into opportunities. During my community service year, I have attended the Level 1 Dry Needling course.

I then went into the private sector and started working at Miller and Associates in February 2015 and in a very short period of time, I was able to gain experience and knowledge in many things such as chronic pain and fascia work. My goal at this practice is to gain experience in all fields of physiotherapy and grow within my career as a physiotherapist. I have since developed a love for post-operative rehabilitation of the knee. Respiratory and chest conditions are also one of my interests.

I strive to give my patients the best treatment for their benefit, by treating them holistically and using the referral system well. I am passionate about working with people and this profession gives me the perfect opportunity to do so. Getting patients functional as they were before an injury is my biggest reward.

I look forward to changing people’s lives every day!

BERNARD KEYTER - Senior Physiotherapist

Bernard_KeyterI completed my degree in Physiotherapy at Stellenbosch University at the end of 2016 and then relocated to Vredenburg on the West Coast of the Western Cape to complete my community service. It was a great opportunity to learn to get by with limited resources and to be close with the local community.

It was a year of new challenges, new opportunities, and big room for improvement as a physiotherapist and as a person. I had the opportunity to work both in and outside of hospital which broadened my knowledge and showed me how to be more helpful to the community. I was also able to do my level 1 Dry Needling course.

I then moved into the private sector where I joined the team at Gerda Miller Physiotherapists in April 2018. In my short time here I have already gained plenty of knowledge and experience with regards to fascia release and pain management. My interests lie very much with orthopaedic conditions and post-operative rehab. I also have a love for sports and work together with Melkbosstrand High School to improve my skills in that area.

I work to treat my patient holistically and return them to their previous level of functionality as soon as possible, which I see as the biggest reward and also why I chose this profession. I also strive to empower my patients to have an active part in their recovery as well.

GERDA MILLER – Practice Consultant

I, Gerda Miller (neé Walters) qualified with a B.Sc. (Physiotherapy) from the University of Stellenbosch in 1987. I am qualified manipulative therapist (OMT) (University of Stellenbosch 1993) and a qualified pilates instructor (essential, intermediate and advanced) Stott Pilates (2001).

I began my career in private practice at Greenacres (Port Elizabeth) and has been a private practice owner since 1998, with my current practice in Melkbosstrand. From the outset it has been my philosophy not to treat an injury in isolation; but work with the patient holistically. In keeping with this philosophy I opened a movement studio to complement to the practice in 2002.

By attending numerous courses and lectures over the years, I have further developed this principle in my core interests of orthopaedic and sports rehabilitation and chronic pain issues. This has evolved in a multi-faceted approach to movement therapy as treatment modality, mindfulness and lifestyle changes as rehabilitation tools.

I am also committed to sharing my methods, and has on and off for several years been involved with part-time lecturing at the University of Stellenbosch Physiotherapy department. In 2004 I established Healthy Living Education, with its focus on providing educational courses and workshops in movement related therapies for medical professionals and movement therapists. I resigned as director from HLE in 2016 to spend more time on training efforts at the practice. I believes that ongoing education and growth is key to being a successful therapist. I see my true calling to empower therapists working with me by sharing my knowledge and experience.

I am committed to give back to my profession and community and is currently the Western Province’s Physiofocus representative. The practice is involved in various community projects.

My goal is to empower and move people to better health and wellbeing

SUZANNE HILLE VAN DE SANDE - Senior Physiotherapist

I was born and raised by Dutch parents in the southern suburbs in Cape Town. I revisited my Dutch roots by attending and graduating from the European School of Physiotherapy in Amsterdam in 2011. I quickly returned back to african soil in order to qualify and practice as a physiotherapist within South Africa.

After a lengthy process of board exams, a year of community service at Tonga Hospital in rural Mpumalanga, I was finally able to register with the Health Professional Council of South Africa. Soon after, I returned back to Holland to reunite with my Dutch husband. I gained special interest in management of chronic pain, stress, burnout. I’ve become more aware of the need to balance our physical, mental and emotional well being. This is where my interest in Mindfulness and conscious movement started. I intend to use these skills within my rehabilitation approach. We have recently moved back home to Cape Town and are excited to start this new chapter. I was welcomed by the caring team at Miller & Associates in February 2017, and have enjoyed the diversity and learning opportunities that the practice has offered thus far.

I’ve completed various Pilates mat work courses through APPI (Australian Physio and Pilates Association) and enjoy teaching group rehabilitation classes, as well as 1 on 1 sessions.

I find it essential to transfer knowledge of movement and awareness to my patients and I enjoy guiding them in their rehabilitation process!
